The Sorì Tildìn single vineyard is situated on top of a hill in Barbaresco, just above Costa Russi. The south/ southwestern exposure and its amphitheater shape ensure maximum sunshine.
Wine: In the local dialect, Sorì refers to the hillside facing south, while Tildin was the diminutive of Clotilde (Angelo Gaja’s grandmother).
Winery: Located in Piedmont in northwestern Italy, the GAJA winery is widely considered to be one of the greatest estates in the world, producing coveted and collectible labels.
Grape Varietals:
100% Nebbiolo
Tasting Notes:
Expressive nose, with hints of lavender, plum, cherry and blackberry; earthy and spicy notes blend with scents of undergrowth and the freshness of mint. In the mouth it is full and voluminous, with hints of sweet licorice, violet and a fruity, full finish. The acidity is lively, the tannins round and fine.
96 Points - Falstaff, November 2016. "Clear, intense ruby. Compact and dense on the nose with inviting initial aromas of liquorice and truffle, then rose petals and plum. Powerful and vivid on the palate, opens with layered dense tannins and a finely textured background. A long and salty finish."
96 Points - Cellar Tracker
95 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, July 2016.
95 Points - Wine Spectator, April 2017.
93 Points - Wine Enthusiast, January 2017. "Aromas of aromatic herb, dark berry, eucalyptus, iris and a whiff of espresso float out of the glass. The vibrant assertive palate shows black cherry, licorice, mint and well-integrated oak sensations framed in youthfully austere tightly knit tannins. This needs time to unwind and fully develop."
