In 1995 founder Hank Wetzel created a wine that was a tribute to Cyrus Alexander and the very special place that AVV calls home; a wine that is now known as the First Growth of Sonoma.
Today winemaker Kevin Hall carries on the tradition selecting our most distinctive lots of estate Bordeaux grapes for CYRUS: Cabernet Sauvignon with exceptional concentration, purity & lush texture; Cabernet Franc with finesse & depth; Merlot for concentration & structure; Petit Verdot for vivid color & richness and Malbec for deep color & depth.
This fifth vintage of Cyrus is a blend of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec from the Wetzel Family Estate. Cyrus is the ultimate expression of our estate grown grapes and the renowned Alexander Valley appellation.
Grape Varietals:
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec
92 Points - Wine Enthusiast, January 2003. "Profoundly rich and complex, a blend of all five Bordeaux varietals. This results in a melange of flavors including blackcurrants and cassis, olives and sweet roasted peppers, dried herbs, and cured tobacco. The tannins are soft, but there is a boost of firm acidity that suggests ageability."
