The vineyard consists of 1.5 hectares, with vines planted in 1932; they are of pre-phylloxera period, pie franco and massale selection (original rootstock ungrafted). Each vine is genetically distinct, contrary to those that are cloned. The vineyard is divided into 4 plots and each plot is managed independently to optimize the care of each one and provide a specialized approach. Then each plot is fermented separately in four open french oak fermenters that were specially customized for us by the Surtep Tonnellier.
Grape Varietal:
Malbec
97 Points - Descorchados, Patricio Tapa, January 2019. "This vineyard of barely 1.5 hectares was the reason Noemía was founded in Mainque almost 20 years ago. A malbec vineyard from 1932. Hans Vinding-Diers saw the potential and began vinifying the grapes in 2001. Noemía, the wine, has gone through various stages, a journey in a search of a sense of terroir and how to interpret it. For us at Descorchados, they’ve found it with this vintage. Far from the excessive ripeness and oak of the past (although they were never as extreme as in other examples from Argentina), this year Vinding-Diers has found the zen balance in this malbec. But be patient. At the beginning this wine has an odd phase. The volatile acidity takes center stage in a way that is perhaps a bit more than I’d like. But later, the red fruit, the freshness, the floral and herbal notes begin to emerge in a wine that is vertical, nervy, long—although it didn’t seem so at first—with tension that lingers to the end."
