The favorable climatic conditions of the 2015 vintage at Château Lassègue benefited this exceptional wine. After a first rainy and then cold winter, the spring was dry with relatively high temperatures, allowing early and even flowering. The beginning of the summer was particularly warm, with the rain showers that came in August a welcome respite. As a result, veraison was able to finish and maturation to launch. The good weather during the grape harvest, which took place from September 21st to October 7th, concluded the preparation of a top vintage.
Grape Varietals:
70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc,10% Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting Notes:
Ripe plums, black cherry liquor and dried cassis provide sumptuous aromas while hints of orange peel, toasted allspice, fresh cinnamon bark and dried tea leaf beckon. A velvety, Merlot-driven mid-palate slowly opens into a multi-layered bouquet of red fruit, toasted baking spices, truffle and coffee bean. An iron-rich minerality provides a taut, complex structure, while fine-grained tannins and firm acidity grip the palate to sustain a long and elegant finish. This classic expression of Saint-Émilion offers a dual brightness and sophistication that will continue to improve for years to come.
93 Points - Gismondi on Wine, February 2019. "A ready to drink vintage is always welcomed, even in 2015 when everything is already managed better in the vineyard and the winery. At Lasségue, winegrower Pierre Seillan is doing a fine job of letting the site express itself via soft, plummy ripe black fruits spiked with spice and a subtle but present stony minerality. The blend is 70/20/10 merlot/cabernet franc/cabernet sauvignon, and while it's drinkable now, it should age well through 2022. Try this with a favourite mushroom dish or roast pork or chicken. Chateau Lasségue has roots in Bordeaux that date back to the 1600’s, but by the time Jesse Jackson got involved in 2003 it was at a low point. His fix was winegrower Pierre Seillan, and after Jess died in 2011, Seillan and Jesse’s wife Barbara Banke have carried on improving every aspect of the chateau."
92 Points - Wine Review Online, March 2022. "Lassegue’s 2015 Bordeaux is a sumptuous Merlot-driven blend from the Right Bank. It is immensely pleasurable now and worthy of a spot in the cellar. It’s a lustrous garnet red, with vibrant aromas of ripe plum, cherry, dark chocolate, and violets. Medium to full in body, it has a dense but balanced feel on the palate with opulent layers of spiced black fruit, cassis, and mocha. The blend is 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine evolves nicely in the glass and is the perfect candidate for a case purchase."
91 Points - The Wine Cellar Insider, Jeff Leve, September 2022. "A bit oaky, but once past the espresso nose you find flowers, cocoa, tobacco, and dark cherries on the nose and on the round, fleshy, fruity palate. Drink from 2022-2032."
