In 1995 founder Hank Wetzel created a wine that was a tribute to Cyrus Alexander and the very special place that AVV calls home; a wine that is now known as the First Growth of Sonoma.
Today winemaker Kevin Hall carries on the tradition selecting our most distinctive lots of estate Bordeaux grapes for CYRUS: Cabernet Sauvignon with exceptional concentration, purity & lush texture; Cabernet Franc with finesse & depth; Merlot for concentration & structure; Petit Verdot for vivid color & richness and Malbec for deep color & depth.
This sixth vintage of Cyrus is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot from the Wetzel Family Estate. Cyrus is the ultimate expression of our estate grown grapes and the renowned Alexander Valley appellation.
Grape Varietals:
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec
91 Points - Cellar Tracker
89 Points - Wine Enthusiast, January 2004. "Light and oaky but delicious, like a sweet confection. Intricately laced flavors of blackberry scone, vanilla, crème de cassis and toast are encased in an airy texture. The tannins are gentle but rich, lending a silken quality to this delicate wine."
