The Sorì Tildìn single vineyard is situated on top of a hill in Barbaresco, just above Costa Russi. The south/ southwestern exposure and its amphitheater shape ensure maximum sunshine.
Wine: In the local dialect, Sorì refers to the hillside facing south, while Tildin was the diminutive of Clotilde (Angelo Gaja’s grandmother).
Winery: Located in Piedmont in northwestern Italy, the GAJA winery is widely considered to be one of the greatest estates in the world, producing coveted and collectible labels.
Grape Varietals:
100% Nebbiolo
Tasting Notes:
Expressive nose, with hints of lavender, plum, cherry and blackberry; earthy and spicy notes blend with scents of undergrowth and the freshness of mint. In the mouth it is full and voluminous, with hints of sweet licorice, violet and a fruity, full finish. The acidity is lively, the tannins round and fine.
96 Points - Falstaff, November 2013. "Intense, bright ruby with a sparkling garnet edge. Shows a distinctly spicy nose, of cloves, a little wood, but also beautifully spicy. Very elegant on the palate, then opens up with dense tannins, washed by sweet melting, salty, very compact, great length, but this year has an unusually high amount of wood spice, very long."
96 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, June 2013.
94 Points - Wine Spectator, February 2014.
92 Points - Cellar Tracker
17.5/20 - Vinum Wine Magazine, December 2013. "Garnet-colored, complex yet elegant wine: full-bodied, with racy tannins and a long, fruity finish."
