Dal Forno Romano Monte Lodoletta Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG 2011 750mL

Though made from the same varieties as Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG ‘Monte Lodoletta’ enjoys three distinct features. First of all, the drying period of grapes: three months for Amarone, one and a half for Valpolicella. Secondly, the age of the vineyard. According to Dal Forno’s philosophy, only the grapes from older vineyards can be used to produce Amarone. Last, but not the least, if the selection of grapes for Valpolicella is already rigorous, for Amarone it is even more so.

The grapes are a late-harvested selection from the best locations on Monte Lodoletta and remain in the drying rooms until December/January, where they lose between 30 and 40 percent of their water content. After pressing and vinification, the wine is placed in new wood for 23 months. Three years in the bottle round off the wine before it is released onto the market. Amarone is only produced in great years. The 2011 Amarone smells of plum compote, chocolate, pepper and leather; the texture combines powerful yet soft tannins with lively acidity and plenty of polish; the finish is powerful and elegant at the same time. An extremely precise monolith of Valpolicella that goes excellently with autumnal game dishes."
