Groth Cabernet Sauvignon has been an estate grown wine since the winery's inception in 1982. The Cabernet fruit comes from the winery's Oakville property. The Merlot, added to the final blend, is made with the fruit from Hillview Vineyard, south of Yountville. Eighteen months aging in small French oak cooperage adds a balancing amount of sweet oak to the lush, cherry/berry aromas and flavors consistently found in our Cabernets. Fully ripe fruit and softer tannins make this wine especially drinkable in its youth.
This wine represents the finest lots from the Reserve Vineyard on the Groth family’s Oakville Estate. The vineyard is a nearly 28-acre band with a disproportionately high amount of chert, a hard and compact sedimentary rock comprising quartz crystals and fossils. The site’s unique soil profile and ideal climate combine to produce the ultimate expression of Oakville — elegant and age-worthy wines from one of the world’s top Cabernet appellations. The vineyard is sustainably farmed and Fish Friendly Farming certified.
