SILVER OAKS ALEX CAB '05

The 2005 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has a dense and dark crimson hue with great saturation. The aromas are wildly complex with sweet vanilla, jammy dark fruits, straw and dried persimmons. While the entry is generous, strong and youthful, the mid-palate is ripe with consistent plum flavors. The finish is accentuated by a lot of grip but has excellent length. Decanting suggested due to moderate sediment. This wine can be enjoyed now but will improve through 2031.

92 Points - Wine & Spirits, February 2010. "A classic Alexander Valley cabernet, this is dark and cedary, and as smooth as velvet. The tannins last, built on black cherry-skin flavor and earthy, root-vegetable notes. With time, that black cherry flavor should become more prominent, balancing the wines earthy complexities. Drink this over the next several years with anything meaty, from duck and game birds to steak."

90 Points - Decanter, "This vintage made everyone happy with its high quality and large crop - an infrequent combination. The growing season was long and cool, with perfect slow ripening. This wine is a bit rustic, with an edge of tannin in the finish, and dark notes of earth and a savoury character. The aromas stand out: cherry, liquorice, earth and dried herbs."
