The 2001 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has a youthful and dark, concentrated ruby color with no signs of aging. It has rose petal, dusty earth and perfumed vanilla bean aromatics that show quite young and vibrant. Its entry is full, mouth-coating and sweet. It is a smooth and exuberant wine with above average body, although it is quite elegant overall in character. The finish is still figuring itself out, but this wine with strong tannins and tart cherry acidity is still compelling and interesting now. Decanting may be necessary due to light sediment. Enjoy now through 2028.
Grape Varietals:
86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 4% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, "The Napa Cabernet Sauvignon is more limited in availability than the Alexander Valley, but there are now close to 33,000 cases being produced. The 2001 (31,430 cases of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot) offers a big, smoky, herb, black currant, tobacco, spice box, and barbecue spice-scented bouquet, and broad, medium to full-bodied, concentrated, sweet, jammy flavors with plenty of sexy, toasty American oak in the background."
Wine Spectator, "Aging very nicely, this is smooth, supple and complex, in great drinking space. Ripe currant, wild berry, mocha, dill, cedar and tobacco are full-bodied, gaining on the finish."
