"La Massa" represents the strong identity of the harsh territory of Panzano elegantly dressed in our oenological personality. The freshness and minerality of Sangiovese, expertly blended with the opulence and nobility of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, allow this wine to convey our idea of joy and happiness.
The 2014 vintage was one of the most unique at La Massa. After a winter that was about 2-3 °C warmer than the seasonal averages, a mild and dry spring followed. These conditions anticipated the budding of the vines while still allowing good vegetative development in the early stages of growth, accelerating the inflorescence. In the second half of June, the weather conditions reversed with a sharp reduction in temperatures. These conditions slowed down growth, bringing the phenological phases back to normal. However, the abundant rains have made it necessary to carefully peel the plants and thin out the bunches correctly to facilitate aeration and reduce humidity to counteract possible infections. All this together with a careful choice of treatments has made it possible to maintain an excellent state of health of the grapes until the harvest. The harvest began in the second part of September and ended in the first half of October, a harvest window that was characterized by the absence of rain and good temperatures that allowed the grapes to reach excellent ripeness. The 2014 harvest will go down in history as one of the latest. The 2014 vintage produced about 115,000 bottles.
