Ornellaia is a blend of nature and musing. Complex ancient soils converse through human wisdom with a delicate microclimate that is echoed and reflected in the Mediterranean Sea. Prolonged ageing accompanies the estate’s fine wine in achieving its utmost expression, revealing finesse and generosity over time.
The desire to nurture the estate’s exceptional qualities has shaped Ornellaia’s philosophy since the beginning. Ornellaia is a cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc & Petit Verdot and the faithful expression of unique terroir developed in harmony with nature.
Grape Varietals:
56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot, 9% Cabernet Franc
Winemaker's Notes:
“The intense and dark hue foretells the lovely concentration, a product of the vintage. Tasting reveals an Ornellaia of great poise, a combination of determination and enjoyable complexity.” - Olga Fusari
97 Points - Falstaff, September 2020. "Rich, deep dark ruby with purple glints. Intense and defined nose, smells of blueberries, blackcurrant, plus some cardamom and liquorice. Full-bodied and rich, lots of ripe dark berry fruit, fine grippy tannins, firm drive on the finish, finishes with berry fruit and liquorice."
96 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, May 2020.
95 Points - vvWine.ch, Adrian van Velsen, October 2020. "Bright ruby, violet reflections. On the nose, warm, ripe fruit, dark cherries, plums, licorice, some blond tobacco, with a hint of eucalyptus and cedar resin on top. The palate is lush, expansive, a mouthful of wine, the rich, ripe fruit is carried by fine-meshed tannins, the acidity is moderate, gives additional structure, the alcohol (the label says 15%, probably even 15.5% in reality...) is clearly perceptible, especially at warmer drinking temperatures, but surprisingly well packaged. Rich, cuddly soft and with a very good finish, the wine ends on prunes, blackberry jam and Christmas spices. An impressive, warm Ornellaia, clearly characterized by a lot of sun and in style much more Rubens than in other years, but once again excellent in quality. If you are not afraid of opulence and are looking for a top-class wine that is wonderfully accessible even in your youth, you can't go wrong with Ornellaia 2017."
